about hestia house
Hestia House opened its doors in May of 1981, and since that time has provided shelter and support for close to ten thousand families.
We are a not-for-profit organization that offers shelter for abused women and their children in a secure setting. Our staff provide counselling, support and referrals to appropriate agencies and support groups for emotional, medical, legal, employment and housing needs.
At Hestia House, our mission is to provide a safe supportive environment for women and women with children who are victims of family violence, and to provide opportunity for change.
Maritime women have had to fight hard for transition houses. It is important to note that in Saint John, as in many areas the establishment of a transition house was a direct response by the community to address the issue of abuse against women.
